The Next Chapter Book Club is just that for adults with developmental disabilities; an opportunity to maintain reading and literacy skills beyond school. Based in Columbus, Ohio, the Next Chapter Book Club has 250 individual book clubs across America, Europe and in Israel. Each club is composed of between five and eight participants facilitated, typically, by two trained volunteers. They meet once a week for an hour primarily in bookstores and cafes. Libraries are also a natural setting for the book club, program manager Jillian Ober said in a phone interview, but one of the objectives of the nonprofit organization is to enable book club members to participate in a "coffee club culture" in a public meeting place.
